Andrea Bocelli achieves Gold Play status on YouTube

Andrea Bocelli has become the first classical singer to be awarded YouTube’s prestigious Gold Play button.
The superstar tenor, who performed at the wedding of Queen Elizabeth II’s granddaughter Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank on Friday (12Oct18), has reached one million subscribers on the video platform and been bestowed with a special metal plaque featuring the channel name’s embossed on it for reaching the digital landmark.
The honour comes after the video for his duet with his 21-year-old son Matteo, Fall On Me, achieved over 15 million views in a fortnight across all platforms.
“I’m delighted to be the first classical singer to receive the Gold Play button from YouTube,” the Italian singer said in a statement. “My duet with Matteo has had an extraordinary reaction and I’m thrilled that people are enjoying the music video too – it was a joy to make it with my son.”
Fall On Me is taken from Bocelli’s new album Si, which is due to be released on 26 October. The song is also played in the end credits of upcoming Disney film The Nutcracker and the Four Realms.
Si is Bocelli’s first album of new material in 14 years and features a host of A-list duet partners including Ed Sheeran, Dua Lipa, Josh Groban and classical soprano Aida Garifullina.
Bocelli will premiere his new music for British fans at two shows at London’s O2 Arena on 2 and 3 November.
