Lil Wayne, Lauryn Hill & Meek Mill to headline Tidal X gig

Meek Mill will join Lil Wayne and Lauryn Hill among the headliners for the fourth annual Tidal X charity concert to help raise funds for criminal justice reform efforts.
Anderson .Paak, Kodak Black, Teyana Taylor, Vic Mensa, Black Thought, The Lox, and former Fifth Harmony star Normani will also be on the bill for the benefit gig at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on 23 October (18).
All ticket proceeds for the TIDAL X: BROOKLYN show will be donated to organisations like REFORM and the Equal Justice Initiative.
The news of Meek’s performance emerges six months after he was released on bail after serving time for a probation violation, relating to 2008 weapons charge.
Tidal co-owner JAY-Z had become one of the Dreams and Nightmares hitmaker’s biggest supporters during his fight for freedom, and penned a New York Times opinion piece about the need for changes to the U.S. justice system last year (17).
“The specifics of Meek’s case inspired me to write this,” he shared. “But it’s time we highlight the random ways people trapped in the criminal justice system are punished every day. The system treats them as a danger to society, consistently monitors and follows them for any minor infraction – with the goal of putting them back in prison…”
“Probation is a trap and we must fight for Meek and everyone else unjustly sent to prison,” he added.
Meek has since become a big advocate for prison reform following his release in April (18) after five months behind bars.
Last year’s (17) Tidal X gig featured performances from Jennifer Lopez, Cardi B, Fifth Harmony, and JAY-Z himself, raising $3.7 million (£2.8 million) for hurricane relief efforts in Texas, Florida, and Puerto Rico, as well as those affected by the earthquakes in Mexico.
