The 10 Biggest Plot Holes From ‘Avengers: Age Of Ultron’ That Still Have Us Befuddled

Captain America: Civil War is set to premiere in just two short months, but before we start choosing sides, we thought this might be a good time to revisit Marvel’s Avengers: Age Of Ultron. Don’t get us wrong, the box-office smash success was everything we could have wanted. From our favorite superheros coming together, to James Spader voicing Ultron, it’s one of the best Marvel films ever made. However, that doesn’t mean that the film is perfect.  With so many characters and various plot points to keep tract of, the film inevitably made a few errors when it came to tying up loose ends. Here are the 10 biggest plot holes from Avengers: Age of Ultron that still have us scratching our heads.

1. When Ultron forgot to disable the rest of the Avengers fancy tech gadgets.

If you recall, Ultron is basically able to infect technology, which is why he essentially decimates Jarvis and builds his body out of the spare parts that are just hanging around the Avengers tower. However, when it comes to disabling the rest of the Avengers’ fancy tools including their walking armory, their fancy vehicles and Iron Man’s hulkbusting suit, Ultron just sort of left those things in working order. We get it, he was thirsty for power, but no formidable villain would have been so careless.

2. Speaking of Iron Man’s Hulkbusting armor, why doesn’t he always wear it?!

Tony Stark finally created a suit that gives him the same power as The Hulk…but he doesn’t wear it all the time. But why? It would only make the team stronger, and it would really help when The Hulk randomly decides he’s over the Avengers and takes off with no notice.

3. Which brings us to this question, why does Bruce Banner aka The Hulk just peace out when he finally has power?!

If you really take a look at Avengers: Age of Ultron, you’ll notice that while Banner was battling The Hulk, he still was in complete control of the beast within him. This is why it’s so puzzling that he decided to just exile himself. We’re also scratching our heads because his relationship with Black Widow was really developing before he made that dumb decision. We all knew that he would never hurt Natasha, so why couldn’t he believe in himself? We really hope all of this is addressed in Captain America: Civil War.

4. Are we going to talk about the time Thor didn’t actually do his job?

GIPHY

Seriously, he had one job! While Ultron had the city under siege, and the other Avengers were helping with evacuation, Thor and Scarlett Witch were supposed to be defending Ultron’s key. Instead, Thor just kind of leaves Scarlett Witch to do that thing where he wanders around for a bit. Sir…seriously?!

5. Also where the heck was Falcon?!

We get that he’s human and what not, but while Nick Fury brought in the cavalry to help defend the Avengers at the end of the great battle, Falcon was pretty much MIA. Which is why we still aren’t sure how he got promoted to the Avengers main team.

6. Though we love Nick Fury for showing up, where did he and the S.H.I.E.L.D helicarrier even come from?

The last time we checked, S.H.I.E.L.D was no more, and Nick Fury was in hiding. Fury explains his presence by saying he had some friends who helped him. Apparently, this was all explained on ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, but what about us lost souls who don’t watch the show? Are we just supposed to be eternally confused?

7. We’re still not really clear about Scarlett Witch’s powers.

If you notice in the film, Scarlett Witch’s abilities are never actually addressed, we’re just told that, “she’s weird.” That’s cute and all, but Scarlett can do some pretty kick ass things including, controlling the Hulk’s mind, ripping robots apart using telekinesis, giving Stark visions, and allowing Thor to see the future. And yet, there is no clear cut explanation about what she actually does. Will we be getting a more thorough explanation some time soon?

8. Quicksilver’s death is super confusing to us.

Before he was shot down like a dog, Quicksilver (being speedy AF) was able to dodge bullets like nobody’s business. However, when it came time for Quicksilver to save Hawkeye and the Sokovian kid from Ultron’s bullets, he just wasn’t quick enough. He should have just picked both of them up and run way, instead, he just stood in front of them taking the bullets aimed in their direction. Even more horrific is the fact that Quicksilver doesn’t actually stop the bullets, he just slows them down. His dead body has both entry and exit wounds which is why we aren’t sure how Hawkeye and the kid were left unscathed.

9. By the way, how come Ultron has the same personality as Tony Stark?

GIPHY

If you recall, Stark never programmed anything of himself into Ultron. Instead, Ultron was created by accident under Jarvis’ supervision. It seems that basing Ultron on Stark’s shortcomings is just a cop-out when he could have been even more intriguing as a villain.

10. Um… Thanos what are you talking about?

Marvel/Tumblr

We weren’t the only ones who were confused when Thanos showed up in the films’ ending credits holding the Infinity Gauntlet and saying “Fine, I’ll do it myself.” What are you going to do yourself Thanos? We don’t understated how one of Thanos’ minions could have failed him since he had no stake in the Avengers fight with Ultron. We have no clue what he’s even talking about, we can simply assume that Marvel just wanted to remind us about Avengers: Infinity War.
